Are Indian ports a threat to Srilankan ports ?

No not any more, if Srilanka has the ability to run efficient ports. Says Richard Vokes, ADB country director in Sri Lanka. "Colombo would have to keep up and improve its efficiency levels to maintain its status as south Asia's container transhipment hub port."

India has decided to get maximum from international trade by expanding it's ports network around the India.Srilanka's shipping traders has expressed fears that India's plans to expand its ports might cause a drop in transhipment cargo traffic through Colombo.

Vokes said Colombo should be able to attract cargo as long as it provides an efficient service to shipping lines and shippers. "If Colombo port wants to retain its hub status it has to become more efficient, as Indian ports become more efficient."

So Colombo port expansion project comes up as a solution. The total investment cost of the Colombo Expansion Project is an estimated US$781 million. Asian Development Bank (ADB) granted a US$300 million loan to the SriLanka Ports Authority to build the breakwater for the new port and to dredge it deep enough to handle bigger ships.

However the Port expansion project few years behind the schedule due to legal and other political issues."Progress on the new breakwater is broadly on track, albeit a little bit behind schedule because of bad weather problems," Vokes said."We expect it to be ready by April 2010 and work on the new container terminal to start by mid-2010."

Anyway, with this interview Sarath Fonseka revealed much hidden stories about the srilankan political condition and how President Mahinda and his brother Gotabhaya treat the security force personnel.

Just one thing we should say that Sarath Fonseka 'Fired it UP'. He fires the srilankan political perspective of two main parties polling for the next presidential election. We said that this is really controversial reveal by ex CDS Gen. Sarath Fonseka which will give rise to strong arguments for and against in srilankan political arena.

Here are few of revelation by Gen Sarath Fonseka.

1. How president Mahinda and Sec. of security Gotabhaya treated ex. senior security staff who committed their full strength to win the war.

2. How Srilanka ex NAVY commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda responded to the president's decision on fire out him from the position. Sarath Fonseka said that Wasantha Karannagoda cried like a child when he lost his position.

Mahinda uses all his powers to knock down Gen. Sarath Fonseka

As we all know the political condition right now in srilanka is a turbulent and becoming violent. Parties who connected with President Mahinda Rajapaksha and Governemt has exposed violence towards General Sarath Fonseka the presidential candidate of common opposition. Mahinda Rajapaksha already identified that he will not win from the next presidential election if they failed to take appropriate actions against Sarath Fonseka and common opposition.

As a consequence State run Media now filled up with one sided publications and broadcasting of programs against Gen. Sarath Fonseka. Fortunately president Mahinda adjourned the Srilanka parliament for 04 weeks to Tuesday 05th January 2010, that now Mahinda's sympathisers can take advantage to appear on State Media and sling muds towards Retired Gen. Sarath Fonseka.

The main tasks of President Mahinda's sympathisers is to look for anything that can be used against Pres. Candidate Gen Fonseka. We all seen that in past few days they made series of poor attempts to knock down the Sarath Fonseka's trait as the person who leads ARMY to fight and win against LTTE.

After the winning of the war against LTTE, Sarath Fonseka became as the Hero and guardian of Srilankan nation who protect Srilanka from bloody terrorists by destroying them. Every Srilankan honored him because of saving their mother land. However after Sarath Fonseka joined hands with opposition parties to wipe out corruption from Srilanka, Mahinda sympathisers trying to attach the 'traitor' label to Gen Srath Fonseka.

Most Srilankans despite of being supported to different political parties, says that they never accepts governments crude behavior against Gen Sarath Fonseka. Also people says that there's no room for any type of corruption and violent if Sarath Fonseka became as next president. So corrupt politicians who live with abused government money by Mahinda Rajapaksha needs to stop becoming Sarath Fonseka as the next president and they will take all their powers to knock down Sarath Fonseka's political personality in next few weeks till election date.
